Good News / Bad News

Good news or bad news, you decide:

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ridley Scott is officially attached to direct a big screen adaption based on Hasbro’s popular board game Monopoly. Pamela Pettler (of Corpse Bride and Monster House) is signed on to write the screenplay.

Guillermo Del Toro will produce a new version of Pinocchio, according to Bloody Disgusting. The film will be a stop-motion flick based on authors Carlo Collodi and Gris Grimly's dark take on the classic fairytale, with Grimly in the director’s chair.

After 14 years on the air, Fox has canceled Mad TV. Variety says the decision to cancel the series came after the show failed to see a ratings boost during the recent presidential campaign. Saturday Night Live, however, has had some of its highest ratings in years.

Columbia Pictures is back in the dojo with a remake of the 1984 classic, "The Karate Kid," which has been repurposed as a starring vehicle for Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith.

The Dark Knight is nearing the $1 billion dollar mark, with a grand total of $997,535,317 in box office receipts. The film has made $528,535,317 domestically (just $72,252,871 shy of Titanic’s record) and $469,000,000 overseas. Warner Bros is planning a big re-release of the film in January, in time for award season - so who knows, maybe The Dark Knight can sink the Titanic once and for all.

The fifth season of ABC's Lost will debut with a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, January 21st. OK, so there is no deciding to this one. This is great news!

And now, the Kevin Bacon Movie Club

Ha ha! Kevin Bacon. Too funny. I read about the Monopoly movie yesterday at IMDb.com. and it mentioned that there's also a Battleship movie in the works. You just know that one's going to have the cheesiest lines... "You sunk my battleship!". Oh please. I can hear the audience groaning already.

It could be a really bad idea, and I'm not the biggest Scott fan, but damnit, something tells me I'm gonna like a Monopoly-inspired movie.

But shoot me when Sorry! the Movie comes out...

I'm convinced the Monopoly 'adaptation' should be considered an original screenplay unless the movie follows a metallic dog around, buying and selling properties.
